1. Before measurement
Choose a suitable blood pressure monitor: Buy an electronic blood pressure monitor produced by a regular manufacturer, calibrated and in compliance with relevant standards. Choose the appropriate cuff size according to your own situation (such as the thickness of your arm). Generally speaking, the width of the cuff should cover about 80% of the circumference of the upper arm, and the length should be able to wrap around the upper arm.
Suitable measurement environment: Avoid strenuous exercise, smoking, drinking, drinking coffee or tea, etc. within 30 minutes before measuring blood pressure, and keep the environment quiet and the temperature appropriate.
Relax your mind: Rest for 5-10 minutes before measuring, so that your body and mood are in a relaxed state, and avoid emotions such as tension and anxiety that affect the blood pressure measurement results.
2. During measurement
Correct measurement posture: Sit on a chair with a backrest, place your feet flat on the ground, keep your body straight, and do not bend or hunch over. Place your arm on the table at the same level as your heart, with your palm facing up. You can put a small pillow or towel under your arm to keep the arm at the same height as your heart to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results. If the measurement is in the supine position, the arm should be kept at a 45-degree angle to the body.
Avoid interference factors: Avoid talking, moving, using mobile phones and other interference factors during measurement to avoid affecting the blood pressure measurement results.
Pay attention to the cuff wearing: Take off the clothes of the upper arm being measured or roll up the sleeves, and be careful not to let the clothes press on the blood vessels and affect the blood pressure measurement value. Wrap the cuff flatly on the upper arm, the lower edge of the cuff should be 2-3 cm away from the elbow, and the tightness should be appropriate to insert a finger. If the cuff is worn too tight, the blood pressure measurement value will be low; if the cuff is worn too loose, the blood pressure measurement value will be high.
3. After measurement
Correctly record and interpret the results: Record the measured systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and heart rate values. Understand the normal blood pressure range. If you have any questions about the measurement results or find abnormal blood pressure, you should consult a doctor or professional in time.
Regular calibration: The electronic blood pressure monitor should be calibrated regularly to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results. Generally speaking, the calibration cycle is 1-2 years.
