Mercury Blood Pressure Monitor Calibration
Mercury blood pressure monitors generally do not require frequent calibration due to their high accuracy. Calibration is mainly needed to correct errors caused by improper operation. The correct method is: after measurement, tilt the blood pressure monitor 45° and close the switch, allowing the mercury to completely return to the reservoir. If the mercury does not fully return due to incorrect closing, simply close it again correctly to complete the calibration.
Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor Calibration
There are two main methods for calibrating electronic blood pressure monitors:
Comparison with a standard blood pressure monitor: After measuring with a mercury blood pressure monitor, rest for 3-5 minutes, then measure again with the electronic blood pressure monitor, repeating three times and taking the average. If the difference between the two results is no more than 5mmHg, the calibration is complete.
Professional institution calibration: It is recommended to send the blood pressure monitor to a professional institution such as the manufacturer, after-sales service center, or quality and technical supervision bureau for calibration at least once a year. Some brands provide local after-sales service points at the time of purchase, facilitating subsequent calibration.
Calibration Precautions
Regular inspection: Calibrate once a year, and increase the calibration frequency if used frequently or if abnormalities occur.
Equipment maintenance: Before calibration, check the appearance of the blood pressure monitor for damage, check the cuff for leaks, and ensure sufficient battery power.
Choose certified products: When purchasing, look for electronic blood pressure monitors that have passed international certifications such as ESH, AAMI, or BHS. These products have undergone quality inspection before leaving the factory and have smaller errors.
