1. Before use:
Check the thermometer: Make sure the glass tube of the thermometer is not broken or damaged, and the mercury column is not broken or separated. If these problems are found, the thermometer should be replaced.
Clean the thermometer: Dip a clean cloth or cotton ball in a small amount of alcohol and wipe the thermometer's temperature-sensing bulb and glass tube to remove dirt and impurities.
Calibrate the thermometer: Place the thermometer's temperature-sensing bulb in an ice-water mixture and wait for a few minutes until the mercury column stabilizes. At this point, the thermometer should read 0℃. If the reading is not 0℃, you need to adjust the thermometer's calibration screw to make the reading 0℃.
2. During use:
Avoid severe vibration: During the use of the thermometer, avoid severe vibration or collision to avoid breaking or separating the mercury column.
Correctly place the thermometer: Fully immerse the thermometer's temperature-sensing bulb in the object to be measured, and ensure that the thermometer is in full contact with the object to be measured. Do not expose the thermometer's temperature-sensing bulb to the air or contact the container wall to avoid affecting the measurement results.
Wait enough time: When measuring the temperature, you should wait enough time until the mercury column stabilizes. Different types of thermometers require different waiting times, generally ranging from a few minutes to more than ten minutes.
Reading the temperature: When reading the temperature, the thermometer should be kept horizontal, with the eyes flush with the top of the mercury column, and the scale value of the mercury column should be read. Be careful not to touch the glass tube of the thermometer with your hands to avoid affecting the measurement results.
3. After use:
Clean the thermometer: Dip a clean cloth or cotton ball in a small amount of alcohol and wipe the temperature-sensing bulb and glass tube of the thermometer to remove dirt and impurities.
Keep the thermometer properly: Place the thermometer in a dry, ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and high temperature environment. Do not place the thermometer in a place where children can easily reach it to avoid accidents.
