The tourniquet hemostasis method mainly uses rubber tubes or hose tourniquets to compress blood vessels to stop bleeding. This method of hemostasis is stronger and more reliable, but it can only be used for massive arterial bleeding in the extremities.
1. Tourniquet ligation method: How to use the rubber tourniquet: Hold the rubber band with your left hand, leaving about 16cm behind the head; tighten the ring body with the right hand, hand it to the left hand in front, hold it with the middle index finger, pull it down along the limb, and center the ring in the front head Insert it and make sure it is not loose. If you encounter severe bleeding in the limbs and need a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, and there is no rubber tourniquet at the scene, you can use local materials at the scene, such as cloth tourniquets, string or hemp rope, etc. When using a cloth tourniquet to stop bleeding, lay it flat into the ring and tighten it. When using string or hemp rope to stop bleeding, it can be tightened and fixed.
2. Issues that should be paid attention to when using tourniquet
(1) The tourniquet should be placed proximal to the wound. The upper arms and thighs should be stretched in the upper 1/3. It is forbidden to apply a tourniquet on the middle 1/3 of the upper arm to avoid compressing the nerves and causing paralysis of the upper limbs.
(2) Before applying the tourniquet, use a towel or other piece of cloth or cotton wool as a pad. Do not tie the tourniquet directly on the skin; in an emergency, roll up the trouser legs or cuffs and tie the tourniquet on them.
(3) The tie should be of appropriate tightness. If it is too tight, it will easily damage the nerves. If it is too loose, it will not be able to stop bleeding. Generally, the degree is that the distal artery pulse cannot be felt or the bleeding has stopped.
(4) If the ligation time is too long, it can cause ischemic necrosis of the limbs. Therefore, it is necessary to relax for 2 to 3 minutes every hour (upper or lower limbs); during the relaxation period, apply acupressure to temporarily stop bleeding. During the cold season, you should relax every 30 minutes. If the ligation site remains for more than 2 hours, the ligation should be replaced at a higher position than the original one.
(5) There should be a sign for applying the tourniquet, indicating the time and location of applying the tourniquet. The injured who use a tourniquet to stop the bleeding should be sent to the hospital as soon as possible to prevent necrosis of the limbs distal to the bleeding site due to ischemia.
