Auscultation is the use of ears or stethoscopes to listen to the sounds made by the human body. It is mostly used to listen to heart sounds and breath sounds. 1. Direct auscultation: The doctor attaches the ear directly to the body wall of the examinee for auscultation. This method can hear very weak internal voices. This is the auscultation method used before the advent of the stethoscope, and it is only used in certain special and emergency situations.
2. Indirect auscultation: This is an inspection method for auscultation with a stethoscope. This method is convenient and can be applied to auscultation in any posture. The auscultation effect is good, because the stethoscope has a certain amplifying effect on the sound of organ activities and can block the noise in the environment. It has a wide range of applications. In addition to auscultation of the heart, lungs, and abdomen, it can also listen to sounds from other parts of the body, such as blood vessel sounds, subcutaneous emphysema sounds, muscle fasciculation sounds, joint movement sounds, and fracture surface friction sounds.
