Preparation before measurement
1. Choose a suitable blood pressure monitor: According to your own needs and doctor's advice, choose a professionally certified and highly accurate electronic blood pressure monitor, such as products from brands such as Omron and Yuyue. At the same time, make sure that the cuff size of the blood pressure monitor is suitable for the upper arm circumference of the person being measured. Generally, the applicable upper arm circumference range will be indicated on the cuff packaging.
2. Check the equipment: Check whether the display screen of the electronic blood pressure monitor is clear, whether the buttons are sensitive, whether the battery power is sufficient or the connection is normal. If it has not been used for a long time or there are doubts about the accuracy of the measurement, the blood pressure monitor can be sent to a professional institution for calibration.
3. Choose a suitable environment: The measurement should be carried out in a quiet room with a suitable temperature (generally 18℃-25℃), and avoid measuring in noisy public places or in an environment with too low or too high temperature to avoid affecting the measurement results.
4. Preparation of the subject: The subject should avoid strenuous exercise, drinking, smoking, drinking strong tea or coffee, etc. within 30 minutes before the measurement, and empty the bladder in advance. It is best to sit on a chair with a backrest during measurement, rest for 5-10 minutes, and relax the body.
Measurement process
1. Correct posture
Seated measurement: The subject should sit on a chair with his back straight against the backrest, and his feet flat on the ground, not crossed or suspended in the air, so that the upper arm hangs naturally with the palm facing up.
Supine measurement: If you choose to measure in the supine position, the subject should lie flat on the bed with his arms straight. You can put a thin pillow under his arms so that the upper arm is at the same level as the heart.
2. Wrap the cuff
Choose the site: Generally, the right upper arm is preferred for measurement, and the left upper arm can also be measured in special cases. Wrap the cuff flatly around the upper arm, and the lower edge of the cuff should be 2-3 cm above the elbow fossa, that is, about 1-2 horizontal fingers away from the elbow crease.
Adjust the tightness: The tightness of the cuff should be such that 1-2 fingers can be inserted. Too tight will make the measurement value too high, and too loose will make the measurement value too low.
Start measurement: Press the start button of the electronic blood pressure monitor, and the blood pressure monitor will automatically inflate. Keep your arm still during the inflation process, and do not use force or move. When the inflation reaches a certain pressure, the blood pressure monitor will automatically and slowly deflate and start measuring blood pressure.
Read data: After the measurement is completed, the electronic blood pressure monitor will display data such as systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse on the display screen. Some electronic blood pressure monitors also have a voice broadcast function. When reading the data, you should keep your eyes parallel to the display screen to ensure accurate readings.
Post-measurement matters
1. Record data: Record the measured blood pressure value, measurement time, measurement posture and other information in a timely manner to observe the trend of blood pressure changes and provide a reference for subsequent health management. You can prepare a special notebook for recording, or use the data storage function of the electronic blood pressure monitor or related mobile phone applications for recording and management.
2. Analyze results: Determine whether the blood pressure is within the normal range based on the measurement results. Generally speaking, the blood pressure range of normal adults is 90-139mmHg for systolic pressure and 60-89mmHg for diastolic pressure. If the blood pressure value is abnormal, such as multiple measurements of systolic pressure ≥140mmHg or diastolic pressure ≥90mmHg, you should consult a doctor in time.
3. Arrange the equipment: After the measurement, turn off the power of the electronic blood pressure monitor, exhaust the air in the cuff, arrange the cuff and blood pressure monitor, and place them in a dry and ventilated place for safekeeping to avoid collision and damage.
