Maintenance after daily use
1. Clean the stethoscope head: After each use, wipe the stethoscope head with a clean, soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, sweat, and other contaminants on the surface. If the stethoscope head has a lot of stains or has been in contact with infectious substances, it can be gently wiped and disinfected with a 75% alcohol cotton ball, but be careful not to let the alcohol flow into the sound guide tube to avoid damaging the internal structure.
2. Wipe the sound guide tube: Gently wipe the sound guide tube with a damp cloth to remove dust and stains on the surface. Avoid using sharp objects to scratch the sound guide tube to avoid damage. The sound guide tube should be kept away from high temperature, sharp objects, and chemicals to prevent aging, cracking, or discoloration.
3. Clean the earpieces: The earpieces also need to be wiped clean with a damp cloth or alcohol cotton ball to keep them clean and hygienic to prevent bacterial growth. For replaceable ear pads, if they are dirty or damaged, they should be replaced in time.
Storage requirements
1. Keep dry: Store the stethoscope in a dry, well-ventilated place, avoid humid environment, to prevent the sound guide tube and the stethoscope head from getting damp and moldy, affecting the sound quality and service life. If the stethoscope is wet or damp after use, it should be wiped dry first, and then placed in a ventilated place to dry.
2. Avoid direct sunlight: The ultraviolet rays in the sun will accelerate the aging of the stethoscope material, so it should be placed in a place away from direct sunlight. You can use a special storage box or bag to properly store the stethoscope, which can protect the stethoscope and facilitate access.
3. Hang or lay flat: The stethoscope is best hung to store, so as to avoid the sound guide tube from being deformed by long-term compression. If conditions do not allow hanging, it can also be laid flat on a flat surface, and do not fold or twist the sound guide tube.
Regular inspection and maintenance
1. Check the integrity of the components: Regularly check the various components of the stethoscope, including the stethoscope head, sound guide tube, earpieces and tees, to check for damage, cracks, looseness or blockage. If the diaphragm of the stethoscope head is found to be damaged, it should be replaced in time; if the sound guide tube is aged, hardened or broken, it also needs to be replaced with a new one.
2. Test the sound quality: Use the stethoscope to perform auscultation tests regularly to check whether the sound transmission is clear, whether there is noise or distortion, etc. If the sound quality is abnormal, find the cause in time and repair or replace the parts.
3. Lubricate the moving parts: For some movable parts on the stethoscope, such as the tee, you can apply a small amount of special lubricant regularly to keep them moving smoothly, but be careful not to let the lubricant get on the sound guide tube and the stethoscope head.
