1. Necessity of Calibration
Measurement Accuracy: Aneroid sphygmomanometers may experience measurement deviations over time and with increased frequency of use. Regular calibration ensures accurate and reliable measurement results and reduces the risk of misdiagnosis.
Medical Safety: Inaccurate blood pressure measurements may lead to overdiagnosis or underdiagnosis of hypertension, which in turn affects the patient's treatment plan.
2. Calibration Frequency
Home aneroid sphygmomanometers: Calibration is recommended every 6 months to 1 year.
Medical aneroid sphygmomanometers: If used frequently in a medical setting, calibration is recommended every 3 months.
Special Situations: If the sphygmomanometer is dropped or exhibits significant measurement error, it should be calibrated immediately.
3. Calibration Method
Professional Calibration: It is recommended that the aneroid sphygmomanometer be calibrated by a professional calibration laboratory. These laboratories typically hold nationally recognized accreditations, such as CNAS or CMA.
Simple Calibration Method: A mercury sphygmomanometer can be used as a reference for comparative calibration. If the difference between the two measurements is within 5 mmHg, the aneroid sphygmomanometer is considered accurately calibrated. 4. Calibration Procedures
Equipment Preparation: Prepare a calibrated mercury sphygmomanometer and aneroid sphygmomanometer.
Connecting the Calibration Device: Connect both devices to the same calibration device.
Simultaneous Measurement: Measure blood pressure simultaneously and record both readings.
Data Comparison: Compare the two measurement results. If the difference is within 5 mmHg, the aneroid sphygmomanometer is considered accurately calibrated.
Adjusting the Calibration Value: If the difference exceeds 5 mmHg, adjust the calibration value of the aneroid sphygmomanometer.
Repeat Measurement: After adjustment, perform another measurement and comparison to ensure accurate calibration.
5. Routine Maintenance
Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft cloth and avoid using corrosive cleaning agents.
Storage: Store in a dry, ventilated, and dark environment. Avoid high or low temperatures.
Inspection: Regularly inspect the device for airtightness and mechanical components to ensure proper operation.
