Description

Tensiomtre is an aneroid blood pressure monitor that detects blood pressure without the use of mercury. As the cuff is inflated and deflated, arterial pressure is measured using a mechanical meter. These devices temporarily halt blood flow by inflating a cuff that is wrapped over the upper arm. The device detects the blood pressure as it passes through the artery after the cuff is loosened.

How it works

1. Position the cuff: Wrap the cuff around your upper arm, level with your heart.
2. Inflate the cuff: Use the inflation ball to inflate the cuff, which stops the flow of blood in the artery.
3. Listen for sounds: Use a stethoscope to listen for specific sounds as you slowly release the air from the cuff.
4. The first sound you hear marks the systolic pressure (pressure when the heart contracts).
5. The sound disappears marking the diastolic pressure (pressure when the heart is at rest between heartbeats).
6. Read the meter: When the sound is heard and then disappears, the reading on the meter indicates the systolic and diastolic pressures.

Advantage

1. Mercury-free: Aneroid sphygmomanometers do not contain mercury, making them more environmentally friendly.
2. Portability: Typically lighter and more compact than mercury-based devices, they are easier to carry and store.
3. Accurate: Aneroid sphygmomanometers can provide accurate blood pressure readings if used correctly.

Calibration Check

Quick Calibration Check:
At zero pressure, make sure the pointer is within the oval around the zero pressure scale on the dial. While a zero reading without pressure does not guarantee accuracy at all scale points, a pointer that does not indicate zero (± 3 mmHg) is a clear sign of error.

Full Calibration Check:
The company recommends a full calibration check at least every two years or as required by local law and after maintenance and repairs. Use the following steps:
1. Connect the test instrument.
2. Pressurize the gauge to just above 280mmHg.
3. Deflate at a rate not to exceed 3mmHg per second and stop to check pressure at 250, 200, 150, 100, 50, and 0 mmHg.
