A Home Sphygmomanometer is a portable medical device used to measure blood pressure. It usually consists of a cuff, a pressure gauge, and a rubber pump. When used, the cuff is wrapped around the upper arm of the person being measured, and air is pumped into the cuff through the rubber pump, gradually increasing the pressure until blood flow stops. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure values are then read from the scale on the pressure gauge to determine the person's blood pressure value.

How to Use the Home Sphygmomanometer
Positioning:
Sit in a comfortable position with your back supported, feet flat on the floor, and arms at heart level.
Rest for at least 5 minutes before taking a measurement to ensure an accurate reading.
Cuff Placement:
Wrap the cuff around your upper arm (above the elbow) or wrist, making sure the cuff is snug but not too tight.
For manual blood pressure monitors, the stethoscope should be placed on the inside of your elbow, above the brachial artery.
Inflate the Cuff:
Manual: Inflate the cuff using the inflation bulb until the cuff fits snugly around your arm (usually 180-200 mmHg).
Automatic: Press the Start button and let the cuff inflate automatically.
Reading the Pressure:
Manual: Slowly deflate the cuff while listening to the Korotkoff sounds through the stethoscope. Note the pressure when you first hear the sounds (systolic pressure) and the pressure when the sounds disappear (diastolic pressure).
Automatic: The device will display your systolic and diastolic pressure readings on the digital screen.
Record your results: It is useful to record your blood pressure readings to track trends and share them with your healthcare provider.
Calibration Check
Calibration Quick Check:
Ensure that the pointer is aligned with the oval mark on the dial at the zero pressure point when no pressure is applied. While a zero reading when no pressure is present does not confirm full-scale accuracy, a deviation of more than ±3 mmHg clearly indicates an error.
Full Calibration Check:
The company recommends a full calibration check at least every two years to comply with local regulations, or after any maintenance or repair. Follow these steps:
Connect the test instrument.
Press the gauge to just above 280 mmHg.
Gradually reduce the pressure at a rate not exceeding 3 mmHg per second, pausing to verify readings of 250, 200, 150, 100, 50, and 0 mmHg.
Precautions
Avoid heat:
Do not iron the cuff with a hot iron.
Do not use steam or heat to sterilize the cuff or tubing.
Prevent contamination:
Ensure that no foreign matter enters the tubing or ports on the cuff.
Proper Use:
Do not inflate the cuff unless the hook-and-loop fastener is securely fastened.
