Home blood pressure monitoring is a key component of cardiovascular health management, especially for those with hypertension, prehypertension, or those taking medication to control their blood pressure. It allows blood pressure monitoring outside of a clinical setting, provides real-time data, helps track blood pressure trends, and facilitates better communication with healthcare providers.

How can I ensure accurate measurements?
1. Calibrate the device: Take your blood pressure monitor to your healthcare professional annually and compare it to the readings taken at the doctor's office.
2. Correct use: Before use, have your healthcare professional observe you using the device to ensure correct operation.
3. Time of measurement: Measure your blood pressure at the same time each day, typically in the morning after waking up and at night before bed.
4. Avoid distractions: Avoid eating, consuming caffeinated beverages, smoking, and exercising 30 minutes before measurement.
5. Correct sitting posture: When measuring, place your feet flat on the floor, lean your back against a chair, and rest your arms on a flat surface at heart height.
6. Repeat measurements: Take at least two measurements, separated by 1 to 2 minutes.
Benefits of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring
1. Early intervention: Blood pressure monitoring can help detect problems early, allowing for timely intervention, lifestyle changes, or medication adjustments.
2. Empowerment: Individuals gain greater control over their health and can use the data collected through regular monitoring to make informed decisions.
3. Convenience: Compared to frequent doctor visits, home blood pressure monitoring is more time-saving and comfortable.
4. Enhanced communication with healthcare providers: Regularly sharing blood pressure readings with your doctor can provide a clearer understanding of your health, helping you make more effective treatment decisions.
Calibration Check
Quick Check of Calibration:
At zero pressure, ensure the pointer is within the oval surrounding the zero-pressure gradation on the dial. Although an unpressurized reading of zero does not guarantee accuracy at all scale points, failure of the pointer to indicate zero (± 3 mmHg) is an obvious sign of error.
Full Check of Calibration:
The company recommends a full check of calibration at least every two years or according to local law, and after maintenance and repair. Use the following procedure:
Connect the test instrument.
Pressurize the gauge to slightly above 280 mmHg.
Bleed pressure down no faster than 3 mmHg per second, stopping to check the pressure at 250, 200, 150, 100, 50, and 0 mmHg.
