Instructions for Using a Liquid Thermometer
1. Pre-Use Check
Before measuring a patient's temperature, firmly ensure that the liquid column of the thermometer is below 36°C (96.8°F).
2. Cleaning the Thermometer
Clean the thermometer both before and after each use.
3. Proper Placement
Position the thermometer accurately according to the chosen measurement method:
Oral: Place the thermometer under the patient's tongue.
Axillary: Insert the thermometer into the patient's armpit.
Rectal: For rectal temperature measurement, strictly follow medical guidelines and take necessary precautions.
4. Reading the Temperature
Wait approximately 4 minutes to allow the thermometer to reach a stable reading.
The liquid column within the capillary tube will display the body temperature on the scale of the thermometer.
Gently rotate the thermometer back and forth to obtain an accurate temperature reading.
5. Resetting the Thermometer
After using the thermometer, reset the liquid column by performing the following steps:
Hold the thermometer near its top end.
Shake it firmly 15–20 times using quick wrist motions.
