How to Measure Blood Pressure Using a Dual-head Stethoscope
Step 1: Place a blood pressure cuff on the patient's upper arm and inflate it.
Step 2: Use the diaphragm side of the stethoscope to listen to the brachial artery (located just below the elbow on the inside of the arm).
Step 3: Slowly deflate the cuff while listening for Korotkoff sounds. These sounds correspond to blood flow resuming in the artery when the cuff pressure is released.
Step 4: The first sound you hear marks the systolic pressure (when the heart contracts), and the point at which the sound disappears marks the diastolic pressure (when the heart is at rest).
